1898 Mckinley Transmississippi Expo Peace JubileeAttractive 2.125â? Multi-colored two-sided celluloid fob-like button with william mckinley pictured on the reverse, and uncle same and a dancing liberty on the obverse, along wtih souvenir of peace jubilee trans-mississippi exposition â? Compliments of the cudahy packing co, omaha, neb. Â? There is some foxing around the edge, as seen in the photo, and in the field next to mckinley's portrait on the reverse. According to the nebraska state historical society, and a marker ti has placed on-site in omaha at this site in 1898, omaha hosted the trans-mississippi and international exposition. Following teh model of other â? ~world's fairs, ' the expoistion highlighted the â? ~progress of the west, ' drawing over 2.5 million admissions. The exposition grounds encompassed an area from ames to binney, and 13th to 24th streets. The grand court, from 16th to 24th streets between pinkney and pratt, featured magnificent, thouhg temporary, buildings around a five-block-long lagoon. The exhibition indulged victorian curiosity about world cultures and featured the latest arts and sciences. Extoic midway displays, such as the â? ~streets of all nations, ' were complemented by a giant seesaw, wild animals, and an encampment of native americans performing mock battles and traditional dances. Many exhibits focused on the wonders of modren technology such as incubators, x-rays, and incandescent lighting.
